Course Description:
The Latin 7 curriculum introduces the students to the study of
Rome and Latin as an ancient language. Students use literature and readings from the
time of Pompeii to learn and enhance Latin vocabulary and syntax. Study of the daily
life of Pompeii is highlighted by a Roman celebration, or cena where students
take on various roles and the attire of the time. Because there is such a positive
connection of Latin to modern English and other languages, consistent emphasis is given to
drawing these parallels. Additionally, the use of archaeology and research is
highlighted to enhance the students' knowledge of these techniques and their importance in
learning about an ancient society.
The course uses audio-visual resources, computer programs and a
hands-on approach to learning. Successful completion of the 7th grade year is
required for enrollment in the 8th grade course of study.
During the course of
this year students will be required to research
and prepare a 3-5 oral presentation with a
3-demensional visual aid. Students will be
able to select a topic dealing with daily life
in Pompeii (the city studied in our textbook).
Prerequisite: There is
no prerequisite for this course.
