Why Study Latin?

Ever wonder why the interest in studying the Latin language has lasted throughout the centuries?  Go to this page to see  some of the many benefits that the study of Latin entails.

The Latin Classes

This page will contain information about what each Latin class is doing.  Such information will include long term assignments, test dates, special projects and anything else which the Latin students and teacher feel is appropriate.

Latin Grammar

This link will provide students of Latin with some basic grammar references including noun and verb charts as well as tips which have been discovered by Somerset Hill's Latin students over the past several years.  Included here are some of the songs we use in class to help remember the rules, laws and oddities of Latin grammar.

Fun With Latin

Test your knowledge of Latin (and English) on this "just for fun" page containing puzzles and games.

"Caesar's Salad"

Visit "CAESAR'S SALAD" , a list of Magistra's favorite web sites.  This site contains a listing of lots of Latin related web sites.  It is a wonderful place for students to start a research project.  It is constantly being updated based upon input from students in the SHSD Latin Program.  ENJOY!

Homework Hotline

This page will contain a listing of major homework assignments, tests and quizzes.

Photo Album

This page will contain photos of the Latin class projects during the year.  Sorry, no student photos allowed.   It will also contain some photos of the Roman World taken by Magistra Martin.  Visit this page and travel back in history with our students.

The Latin site has been constructed and designed by Magistra Martin.    It was inspired by the Latin pages at the Cambridge Rindge & Latin School in Cambridge, Ma.  Many thanks to Pauline Demetri and her students there for developing such an in-depth and inspirational site!
