national competition, the
U.S. is divided into 7
regions. BHS took
first place in regional
competition, making them one
of the top seven teams in
the U.S. In addition,
there were 12 national
individual winners in the
entire United States who had

Math Team placed 13th in the
state out of 255
participating schools in the
New Jersey Mathematics
League Contest. The team
placed 2nd in Region 16 and
a BMS team member ranked
first in Region 16 with a
score of 39. (Lou

Lou
Ferrante reports that a
6th grade student was one of
only 25 children out of
135,000 students worldwide
to earn the prestigious Dr.
George Lenchner Medallion,
awarded for a perfect score
in the Mathematical
Olympiads. Students
participated in a series of
five monthly contests each
from November to
March. Four students
earned gold pins which are
awarded to those in the top
2% of all contestants.
The 6th Grade Team earned a
"Highest Team
Achievement"
designation in Division E. |
 | The BMS
Forensics Team, coached by Lorrie
Lane, competed in each
of the three regional
competitions sponsored by
the NJ Consortium for Gifted
and Talented. The team took
home a team championship
trophy at each of the three
competitions: Interpretive
Reading, Oratorical
Declamation, and Impromptu
Oratory. Several students
won individual trophies at
each of the competitions,
ending with the JV Team
taking four of the five
individual prizes in
Impromptu Oratory. Students
took either a first or
second place at every
tournament. The team has
never competed without
winning individual and team
trophies.

from BMS competed in the
TheaterFest 2003, an
acting competition
sponsored by the New
Jersey Consortium for
Gifted and Talented. The
BMS team took home 14 of
the possible 30
trophies. The
competition was
excellent, with many,
many, many well-prepared
scenes.
