What we use: In 2014-2015 Bernardsville Middle chose to adopt the Connected Mathematics program (CMP) to teach the New Jersey Student Learning Math grade level standards. This program has been phased in over the past few years in each grade level math course (excluding Algebra 1).
Why: Connected Mathematics (CMP) is focused on research and the belief that students learn mathematics best when it has been taught through problem solving. CMP is a problem-centered curriculum promoted by an inquiry-based classroom environment. According the program's website:
All students should be able to reason and communicate proficiently in mathematics. They should have knowledge of and skill in the use of the vocabulary, forms of representation, materials, tools, techniques, and intellectual methods of the discipline of mathematics, including the ability to define and solve problems with reason, insight, inventiveness, and technical proficiency
