Saturday, May 18 at 2:00 pm, Bernardsville Public LIbrary, 1 Anderson Hill Rd., BernardsvilleDonna Baier Stein will speak about her new book, “Scenes from the Heartland: Stories Based on Lithographs by Thomas Hart Benton.” These nine tales bring to vivid life the early decades of the 20th century as witnessed by one of America’s best-known painters. These stories reveal our fellow countrymen and women living with grace and strong leanings toward virtue, despite the troubles that face them. Free. Preventing Skin Cancer Wednesday, May 22 at 7:00 pm, Bernardsville Public Library, 1 Anderson Hill Road, Bernardsville Dr. H.C Haliasos, dermatologist from Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, will present a program about skin cancer including how it develops, its impact and how to prevent it. As people, young and old, get more sun exposure, participate in leisure activities and sports outdoors, and live longer, it is important to learn how to prevent this type of cancer. Free. An 88-year-old Jewish tailor named Abraham embarks on a long journey to try and find the man who saved him from certain death during World War II. This film is in Spanish with subtitles. 5/16/2019 Youth Mental Health First Aid Training  The Bernards Township Municipal Alliance Against Substance Abuse and Bernards Township Health Department will be sponsoring a Youth Mental Health First Aid Training on Thursday May 16th from 8:30 am until 5:00 pm. This eight-hour training course gives people the tools to identify when an adolescent age 12-18 might be struggling with a mental health or substance use problem and to connect them with appropriate support and resources when necessary. $50 -- registration is required, please contact Kaitlin Cartoccio at 908-204-2523.
5/16/2019 Book Signing: "Finding Kate" Thursday, May 16 at 7:00 pm Bernardsville Public Library, 1 Anderson Hill Road, Bernardsville When Meryl Carmel took a walk at Natirar one afternoon in 2007, she never thought it would lead to ten years of research tracking down the little-known story of Kate Macy Ladd, a Gilded Age heiress who opened a convalescent home for women at Natirar where she lived with Walter Graeme Ladd, her husband of almost fifty years. She was influential as a philanthropist in many health-related areas during her life and also afterwards through the Josiah Macy Jr. Foundation. Ms. Carmel will talk about her book, how she came to write it, and about its subject, Kate Macy Ladd. Books will be available for purchase and signing. Free. Our new program Be Sun Safe: Prevent Skin Cancer will be presented on Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. in the Bernardsville Library located at 1 Anderson Hill Road in Bernardsville, NJ. Dr. H.C Haliasos, a dermatologist from Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in Basking Ridge, will present a program about skin cancer including how it develops, its impact and how to prevent it. Skin cancer is diagnosed more frequently in the US than all other cancers combined. It is estimated that the number of new cases of melanoma diagnosed in 2019 will increase by 7.7 %. Furthermore, the number of children, adolescents, and young adults being diagnosed with skin cancer has increased more than 250% over the past four decades. As people, young and old, get more sun exposure, participate in leisure activities and sports outdoors, and live longer, it is important to learn how to prevent this type of cancer. Bernardsville Pool is looking for certified lifeguards for summer employment at the Bernardsville Pool. A class for certification is being offered through Elite Tactical on May 31 - June 2nd at the the pool. If hired and work 100+ hours for us 1/2 of the fee for the class will be reimbursed. Great summer job, good pay.
