New Traffic Flow at BHS - Click for map
Please be advised of the following changes to the traffic pattern at BHS effective on September 7, 2010.  With the installation of the new driveway and pedestrian walkway, we have not only improved student and staff safety, we have also been able to address the traffic circulation at the high school.   Here are a few things to remember when dropping off or picking up students at BHS:
Car rider drop off and pick up will remain in  front of the Olcott Building.
During both arrival and dismissal, the only way for cars to enter the BHS student parking lot will be through
the new driveway located on Olcott Avenue.
During both arrival and dismissal, buses will be dropping off and picking up students via the newly
constructed  sidewalks in the BHS upper parking lot.
Students, parents, visitors and staff are reminded to please use the sidewalks

Earlier today, an AlertNow telephone message was sent. Based upon a quick response to the phone message, it has been determined that the woman is the relative of a Bedwell student who was also in the back seat of the car at the time. Our students’ safety is always our priority therefore, we must take all incident reports seriously.

H1N1 Questions & Answers
January 8, 2010
The district has prepared a resource guide for our community with current information regarding H1N1 flu, which will be updated as new information is provided.
  • Superintendent's Letter
  • The State Department of Health and Senior Services announced on Wednesday, December 16, 2009 that physicians, local and county health departments and other health care providers can now provide the H1N1 vaccine to the general public.  Until now, the Department’s H1N1 vaccination program has been limited to individuals in specific target groups who were most at risk of serious complications from the flu.  While it is still important for those in target groups to get vaccinated as soon as possible, it is important for all residents of the state – older than six months of age – to be vaccinated against H1N1.  Vaccination remains our most effective tool to prevent the flu.Click here for more information.
  • NEW DATES FOR MARCHThe Bernards Township Health Department will be taking appointments for Mondays in the month of March. Click here for information
  • Director of Center for Disease Control reminds all parents that children from 6 mo. to 9 years of age need to receive 2 doses of the H1N1 vaccine. Click for letter from the director.

Friday Folders
November 3, 2009
Each school's Friday Folder is the method used to share school-specific, district, and community information. The nature of these notices will include forms, notices, general school information, etc that would normally be sent home with your child. Please subscribe to the Friday folder if you wish to receive weekly information via email. This "green" initiative is to save money on paper and reproduction, and to better serve our environment.

Website to replace Edline on October 30, 2009!
October 23, 2009
The Somerset Hills School District has begun to phase out its use of Edline.  The district website, www.shsd.org, and PowerSchool will be used to accomplish all that Edline did and much more.   In order to continue to receive notifications from your child(ren)'s school, you must register at www.shsd.org. Edline will be deactivated during the first week of November, and the district website will be used exclusively for all email notifications.

Website registration instructions containing the information needed to create an account on the district website were mailed home last week. Detailed step-by-step instructions are also posted on www.shsd.org under the Parents’ section

On October 30, each school in The Somerset Hills School District will begin to utilize a new communication tool, a weekly Friday Folder email notification. The Friday Folder will provide information that was previously emailed via Edline, mailed via USPS, or sent home with your child(ren).   Only those parents who have completed the website registration process will receive Friday Folder notices.  This “green" communication method will streamline the distribution of notifications, bulletins, and reminders about upcoming school events and activities.

As always, if you cannot find the answers you are looking for in the Parents section of our website, please email your questions to webmaster@shsd.org.

Welcome Back

Schools Open Thursday, September 10
Welcome to another school year in The Somerset Hills School District!
August 24, 2009
During the Summer months, we've been busy preparing a new web site that caters to the web needs of K-12 schools.

Using this new web system, we will be able to involve the individual schools and their students and parents directly into the process of exchanging information and staying informed. While you may find things a little confusing or out of place at first, we are confident that you will end up finding the new web site much more functional and dynamic than our previous one.

Some of the features that you're sure to find useful include

  • A dynamic, searchable calendar
  • A standardized page layout
  • Easy to use tabs and menu structures with expanding menus
  • Classroom Pages
  • Much, Much More!

As with anything new, we're all still learning and experimenting, so if you run into anything that you think could be done better, or doesn't appear to be working properly, please let us know!

Thank you, and we look forward to working with you during the new school year, and beyond!
