On January 30, 2024 Maschio’s Food Services hosted a Chef Day Sauce Tasting event for students in Bernards High School. Chef Greg Ivancich from Schwan’s/Chef One prepared chicken and vegetable dumplings. Additionally, he created three dipping sauces to wake up the taste buds: Korean Sticky Wing, Thai Lemongrass, and Nashville Hot! Students and staff were encouraged to try all three flavors and cast their votes by scanning a QR code. The clear winner amongst the BHS population was Korean Sticky Wing at 63%, followed by Nashville Hot and Lemongrass at 20% and 17% respectively. “It was great to see so many of our students excited about sampling a different cuisine, and hearing them discuss the flavor profiles,” shared Jinnee DeMarco, Business Administrator. “We have contracted with Maschio’s for many years and they continue to move forward with the times, considering feedback and bringing forth new and innovative ideas to our school menus.” Korean Sticky Dumplings will be added to the February lunch menu at Bernards High School.
Maschio’s continues to serve the Somerset Hills School District students with healthy meals and a wide variety of options to cater to different tastes. They take good nutrition and good food seriously. Maschio’s is also focused on providing Jersey Fresh options, and with their Farm-to-School program they strive to bring local fruits and vegetables to the schools by partnering with farms throughout the state.
Via their Cafeteria Connection newsletter, they share small bites (pun intended) of information. In January they highlighted the importance of physical fitness. Their February publication contains information about combating heart disease, as well as quick tips on how to read the nutrition facts on a food label. A dollop of fun for all ages, are the monthly lists of unique holidays related to food. So gear up to enjoy a slice on February 9th for Pizza Day, prepare to bake some muffins on the 20th for National Muffin Day, and of course, search for a recipe to celebrate National Strawberry Day on the 27th!
