The Somerset Hills School District has selected Mrs. Jasmine Akauola as Assistant Principal of Bedwell Elementary School for the 2024-2025 school year.

At its Board of Education meeting on June 26, 2024, the Somerset Hills School District approved Mrs. Jasmine Akauola as Assistant Principal of Bedwell Elementary School for the 2024-2025 school year.

Beginning her career in education in  2005, Akauola has taught Pre-K, 3rd grade, 5th grade bilingual, and K-12 ESL. Most recently she served as the Program Supervisor of World Languages and ESL/Bilingual Education for Rahway Public Schools. Akauola is an adjunct professor at Union College of Union County and is a new staff member of the Institute for Intensive English.

Akauola is thrilled to be joining the Somerset Hills School District. She admires the strong sense of community and the rich history of the district. In her new role, she looks forward to working collaboratively with all stakeholders to ensure the success of all students and staff members at Bedwell. Dedicated to creating rigorous programming and meaningful educational experiences that meet the needs of all students, Akauola said, “As Assistant Principal of Bedwell Elementary School I hope to serve as a collaborative and supportive instructional leader who can help carry out a shared vision for our students.”

Akauola earned her Master's of Education from The College of New Jersey specializing in Teaching English as a Second Language. She completed her undergraduate degree at Rutgers University, New Brunswick, and her administrative certifications through the New Jersey Expedited Certification for Educational Leadership program (NJEXCEL).

“During our process to identify a world-class leader to speak to the needs of Bedwell, Jasmine demonstrated broad skills in elementary programming and multilingual programming which, coupled with prior administrative experience uniquely qualifies her to serve as an Assistant Principal at Bedwell,” shared Dr. Brian Brotschul, Superintendent of Schools. “There is much to be celebrated with this appointment, which resulted from an inclusive process involving staff members, parents, and district administrators.  I look forward to working with Jasmine and supporting her growth in the District.”

Akauola will replace Mr. Chris Keri, who left the district after serving Bedwell as its Assistant Principal for two years.
